Q5 Evaluation Draft

How did you attract/address your audience?
My target audience ranges between older teenagers and young adults of the age 16-24, and so I have designed my magazine to suit the needs of this target audience and will attract them to buy it. I am mainly looking to attract males due to the type of music but I think my magazine could also attract females to my magazine as there is a male on the front cover. I also think that the clothes that my artist is wearing would mainly attract males to it as they could be interested in the style of clothing that the artist is wearing. I also believe that the colours of the magazine would attract my target audience to buy it is as they are quite manly colours such as black and white and i think they would be an aesthetically pleasing to a male as they co-ordinate well the photo and also make it look very stylish. The cover lines feature a mixture of male and female artists and also mentions tours of different artists so I think this would appeal to both male and female as they may both enjoy the music that the artists on the cover lines feature. I have chosen a mixture of British artists and American artists to use on my cover lines this is because a large amount of big superstars are American and so I thought this would appeal more to my target audience. I also believe that my audience would prefer to see the American artists live and at a big venue than going to see a smaller British band.
I mention festivals such as V and Wireless this is due to the fact that these festivals play the type of music that my target audience would listen to and so I think that this would attract them to buy my magazine.
I designed my contents page to suit the style of my audience as the content is brief in its description in what is available inside the magazine and so I did this as i believe that my audience would prefer this style other than a contents page with lots of information on it. I also think that the style of music I am aiming for is shown in the contents page. The language register that I used in my magazine was informal language as I wanted the magazine to feel realistic and I didn’t want to have any spelling mistakes, incorrect grammar or slang involved in my contents. I feel that the picture would be attractive to them as the artists are young and successful who they would aspire to be like. The fact that many of my features gives the reader an insight in to some of their favourite artists is a feature that I feel would attract my audience. An example of this is the interview with Justin Timberlake that is featured inside.
My double page spread would appeal to my audience I believe through the picture and the way he is standing, I also feel as if the way my artist is dressed shows that he is mainstream and would appeal to my audience. I think that the audience would be interested in what the artist has to say and so would want to read the interview. The interview points out the qualities of the artist and he is represents himself in a very positive manner which I think would attract my audience to buy my magazine as they have respect for the artist.
Overall I think that I have done a lot of things that would attract my target audience to buy my magazine and I have addressed them in an appropriate manner. I think my audience profile helped me a lot to be able to achieve this and I also focused a lot on how my artist would be represented to the audience and how that would fit in with my magazine.

  1. Please spell check all your posts ( cut and paste and drop into Word, correct and put back again, )as you mention spelling and grammar errors being off-putting and yet make them yourself!
I wouldn't say your article is that formal; in fact it is informal to appeal to young people reading it ('Cheers for coming in today' and contains humour between the interviewer and the artist to give an overall relaxed feel.
